    Drinking and Dating

    12.04.06

It’s quite common to meet up somewhere for drinks and a friendly bite to eat. He gets a beer, you ask for iced tea. He recommends that you taste the long island blend, and you do. The next thing you know, its morning and you have no idea where you are.

While this story may seem an exaggeration, the effects of alcohol on the unwary are accurate. How much of it you can hold is dependent on your tolerance. Having a drunken date is actually a turn off; even though the movies may make it seem cute, silly or funny.

If you want to have a drink, keep it to a minimum. Choose something that will not turn you into a crying lunatic or a laughing hyena. Generally, two glasses of any alcoholic beverage is an acceptable amount to drink while on a date.

Here are some tips to keep your drinking less risky:

    • Sip and savor your drink - enjoy the taste and effect of the alcohol. You’ll be able to appreciate more if you drink it slowly than if you gulp it down
    • Space your drinks - your body needs time to adjust to the alcohol in your system. Take your time and alternate between your drink and non-alcoholic drink.
    • Drink some water - alcohol dehydrates the body. A glass or two of water for every glass of alcohol you have will go a long way to stave off getting drunk.
    • Take the time to eat before you eat and drink - Eating a salad does not count! The perfect match to alcohol is meat. An empty stomach and alcohol is a recipe for disaster. Food slows down the speed at which your body absorbs the alcohol.

    Nice Guys Finish Last

    11.04.06

The guys hate hearing that. Back when we’re kids, we notice that girls fawn over the bad guys, the toughies, the cool kids. Why don’t they notice the average Joe? So everyone sets out to become every girl’s object of desire.

What they don’t realize is that while girls like the bad boy image, when they become women and start looking for a serious relationship, they look for someone more reliable. They look for someone who has brains yet can be silly, who isn’t afraid to show they have a soft side. They want someone who is strong enough to take care of them yet doesn’t need to prove he is macho to everyone.

A jock is interesting to look at but without anything between the ears is only nice to look at and show off on a girls arm. Guys into cars and bikes are cool if all your interested in is a ride. Too bad that the ladies want more than that in the long run.

The wonderful thing about nice guys, they are usually true friends. They are the ones who work hard and have hobbies. They try to have balance in their lives. They are usually well-rounded people - if a bit shy or slow in stating their feelings.

Don’t worry if the ladies seem to be dazzled by the bling-bling and flash of the other guys. In the long run, they’ll come looking for exactly what you are - a nice guy. It is so true, it became a cliche! There is no need to be first because it isn’t a race. In love, it’s the one who becomes “the last” who wins.

    Creative Dating

    10.04.06

Movies and eating in a fine dining restaurant are great ideas for date. But it can become routine and a bit boring unless you’re always trying out new places. Depending on where you live, your options may be limited.

People always want to experience something new. We crave adventure, each in our small way. You don’t need to go into extreme sports, just be open to trying out something different.

How about having a picnic? If there’s a nearby beautiful park, that can be quite romantic. If the weather is too unpredictable or foul, make it an indoor affair. That will lessen the risk of ants and can actually be more comfortable.

If you love to dance and so does your date, how about learning to dance ballroom together? It is fun to learn and you get to see if you’re a match on the floor as well as everywhere else. Be Fred and Ginger for a night or two and have a blast being graceful and elegant.

How about going to a drive-in movie? Clean out your garage, move your TV and DVD player. Pick up your date and drive into your own theater. Don’t forget the popcorn!

You can create any number of unique dates. You just need to figure out what your date enjoys and find away to make it a bit more personal. Your date will appreciate the thought and planning that you put into making your time together special. She will see you as a person who knows how to have fun and is thoughtful at the same time.
